Yana Pan's Journey in Animation Design and Fashion as an Artistic Statement

A look at her short '0000E8' and more

Yana Pan is a Chinese animator, animation director and designer currently based in Los Angeles. Yana draws inspiration from books, films, fashion, anime, sculptures, nature—essentially everything she consumes. She loves geometric shapes, sci-fi, early surrealism and her cat Julie.

Yana works to balance the ideas of creating art for herself while simultaneously using her artwork to make a statement. She struck the right balance in her most recent short animation, 0000E8. The animation has been featured in It's Nice That, Nowness Asia, Booooooom tv, and Girls in Films. 0000E8 combines a fresh color palette, structural humanlike figures, and an overall eerie tone.

In this latest edition of our new video interview series Long Story Short, Yana talks to us about self-education, various creative mediums and the power of clothing.

"Long Story Short" is a new Muse video series produced with FREE THE WORK, a nonprofit initiative and talent discovery platform for underrepresented creators. Head to freethework.com to search for more talented creators to work with. For more about Yana Pan, visit her Free The Work page.
