Explore 60 Years of Advertising History in This Epic, Interactive Painting by the Clio Awards

Creatives and mascots mingle in Sam Spratt's artwork

Since their founding in 1959, the Clio Awards have been the world's foremost adjudicator of advertising excellence.

Now, to celebrate its 60th birthday, Clio has collected scores of advertising greats from that transformative six-decade period—legendary creative executives and famous ad characters alike—into a single painting that you can explore deeply online.

The painting, created by artist Sam Spratt in collaboration with Clio and BBDO Los Angeles, is viewable at Clio60.com. You can click and drag to move around, and click on any creative executive or ad character to learn more about them—including vintage photos and reels of old commercials.

The time period fully stretches from 1959—when Wallace Ross, who is pictured toward the back left, founded the Clios—to the present day. Recent campaigns highlighted include everything from Tide to The New York Times.

A large-scale physical copy of the painting will be on display at this year's Clio Awards ceremony on Sept. 25.

BBDO L.A. conceived the entire 60th anniversary campaign for the Clios.
