Introducing Black Tea, Our New Interview Series With Black Women in Advertising

Michelle Lawrence chats with Martin Agency's Makeda Loney in episode 1

I'm so pleased to introduce the first episode of Black Tea, a brand new content series by Black women for Black women, but to the benefit of all. In each video interview, we hold space to have a one-on-one conversation with a Black woman in the advertising industry. We spill the tea on the unique joys, challenges, opportunities and triumphs that we take on—both collectively and in our individual career journeys.

Our first episode kicks off with a great guest, the bubbly, dynamic Makeda Loney (she/her), an award-winning copywriter at The Martin Agency. Makeda is a Brooklyn native living in Chicago, a semi-pro Twitch streamer, illustrator and poet. Basically, she wakes up each morning and chooses which kind of amazing to be.

Black Girl Magic for real. Enjoy!

Black Tea is a video series that exists to make the independent voices of our fellow Black adwomen louder in the industry. If you identify as a Black woman in advertising and you’d like to be interviewed, please fill out this self-submission form. For questions about the show, please get in touch. Note: We do not currently take interviewee nominations or recommendations from agencies or third parties.
