#WFH Diaries: Michael McIntyre of MOCEAN

As lockdowns linger in most parts of the world, we're checking in with creative people to see how they're faring. Here's an update from Michael McIntyre, president of entertainment agency MOCEAN in Los Angeles.

Give us a one-line bio of yourself.

President of MOCEAN. CDW (chief dish washer) at Home.

Where are you living right now, and who's with you?

I live in Cheviot Hills, which is in West Los Angeles. Social distancing with my family, which includes my wife, soon to be 18-year-old daughter (a senior in high school), 15-year-old son, one giant dog, three cats, two parrots, one guinea pig, one lizard, 10 Koi fish.

What's your work situation like at the moment?

Working from home office/guest room/back yard.

Describe your socializing strategy.

Wearing clothes at least three times a week for Zoom sessions.

How are you dealing with childcare?

Letting them—teenagers—sleep till 1:30 in the afternoon.

What are you reading?

James Ellroy's latest, The Storm. I hear it's very uplifting!

What are you watching?

Unorthodox on Netflix was really good. Season 4 of TLC's 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days for educational purposes. Just re-watched Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? to remind my family how nicely we are getting along cooped up together.

What are you listening to?

Mobituaries podcast with Mo Rocca. Shout-out to Spotify for its Discover Weekly playlist.

How are you staying fit?

Luckily, we bought a Peloton in February. Follow me at: moceanskipper.

Have you taken up a hobby?

Learning guitar, for like the eighth time. This time I'm SURE it's going to stick.

Any tips for getting necessities?

Bring someone tall, it's always good to look on the top shelves at grocery stores for those missing items.

An awkward moment since all this started.

Life is an endless series of awkward moments…

An aha! moment since all this started.

Kittens are really, really entertaining. (We rescued a gray tabby kitten around Christmas time.)

On a serious note, our kids—all our kids—are really resilient and strong. I have so much faith in them to come through this with a new sense of purpose and passion. We've done so much to screw things up … I know they will be the generation that can put us back on a sustainable course.

What's your theory on how this is going to play out?

Changes by the minute. I hope for the best for all my colleagues and friends across the agency world. We're in this together.
