From Shadow and Bone to Voyagers, See This Week's Trailers and Posters

Plus, Michael B. Jordan in the new Tom Clancy vehicle

There was some truly great work to showcase this week in entertainment marketing. Excellent craftsmanship, daring editorial choices, and a highly unique use of Ray Romano voiceover skills were all on display. So major kudos to the marketers who were willing to take some risks and keep us on our toes. It certainly helps keep things interesting as the days of excessive screen time continue.

Sometimes it can be hard to remember when watching trailers or glancing at posters just how much work goes into producing these terrific pieces, but the excellent craftsmanship and invention on display this week make it a bit easier. Take a look and see if you agree, when you check out this week's notable trailer and poster releases.

Trailer Agency: Trailer Park
Poster Agency: LA

Shadow and Bone is a new Netflix fantasy series based on the popular "Grishaverse" novels by Leigh Bardugo and follows a young mapmaker who discovers she may be able to stop a monster-filled shadow from enveloping her country. This new teaser drums up the intrigue while highlighting the show's impressive set pieces and introducing newcomer actress Jessie Mei Lei, who stars as the main protagonist. The cinematic score crescendos into a powerfully crafted montage of the action and magic to come in this exciting new series. The key art further adds to the mystery with a subtle exploration of the power of the shadow. Find out more when the series premieres on April 23.

The latest in Tom Clancy's film franchise is Without Remorse, starring Michael B. A ticking heart monitor introduces us to Kelly and builds into propulsive sound design that highlights the violent punches and gunshots he will face on his thrilling revenge mission. It's an action-packed romp that gets the adrenaline primed for this latest Clancy adventure. Light peeks through the wall in the alluring poster. Without Remorse comes to Amazon Prime Video on April 30.

Thunder Force

Netflix

Poster Agency: The Refinery

Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy play estranged best friends who find themselves with superpowers in the new Netflix film Thunder Force. AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" leads the way in this trailer, which nicely sets up the film's premise while still allowing great moments of humor and kick-ass action to shine using strategic pacing and sound design. Our heroes have matching power stances on the inviting poster. Thunder Forces comes to Netflix on April 9.

Made for Love

HBO Max
Trailer Agency: Mark Woollen & Associates

Is that Ray Romano's voice? And wait, is he reciting Beyonce's "Crazy in Love"? You are correct, that is exactly what's happening. It's a delightful and slightly absurd choice to introduce Made for Love, a new HBO Max series starring Cristin Milioti, who plays a woman who gets a surveillance chip implanted in her brain by her new husband. The narration drives this teaser, which builds in intensity as Romano reaches the song's chorus. Paired with sharp editing, it makes for a quirky contrast that leaves us wanting more from this engaging setup. Made for Love comes to HBO Max in April.

Sky Rojo

Netflix
Trailer Agency: BOND
Poster Agency: N/A

Sky Rojo follows three exotic dancers as they go on the run to escape their abusive pimp. Great editorial and neon graphics produce a high-octane trailer to introduce us to the girls and the heart-racing journey they are about to embark on. A fitting music cue brings the girl power to the piece and is perfectly paced throughout to build into a powerful ending moment. The colorful poster introduces this intriguing new cast of characters. Sky Rojo premieres on March 19.

Voyagers

Lionsgate
Trailer Agency: AV Squad
Poster Agency: Leroy and Rose

A roaring EDM track and bold editorial careen us through the Voyagers teaser, a trippy, drug-fueled sci-fi odyssey. The piece combines footage of EDM raves, nuclear explosions, wild animals and unique hazy copy cards to produce a high-voltage kaleidoscopic teaser. Jump cuts, big hits and liquid-drip sound effects combine into one stellar (and interstellar) teaser. The alluring poster plays beautifully with color to produce a captivating piece of key art. Voyagers comes to theaters on April 9.
