Brands Might Want to Meet These TikTok Interior Design Mavens

Maximalism, vintage obsessions and thrift

From cluttercore to dopamine décor, TikTok is increasingly at the forefront of interior design trends. According to a 2022 Taskrabbit-commissioned report, 26 percent of the world turns to TikTok—which boasts 150 million users in the U.S. alone—for style guidance, and Taskrabbit expects that influence to grow this year.

Here, we introduce you to three TikTok interior design gurus focused on creating better homes, and in one case, gardens, too.

If plain white walls just don't do it for you, feast your eyes on Maitri's vibrant and joyful Brooklyn apartment. Using bright paint in shades of pink, lilac and yellow, as well as patterned peel and stick wallpaper (she's even covered her fridge with it), this renter-friendly DIY expert has transformed her pre-war pad into a maximalist's dream. Among Maitri's favorite pieces of dopamine décor are her Mario Bellini replica sofa, hanging disco balls and pug art. Speaking of pugs, Maitri, who has nearly 190,000 followers, lives with an adorable pooch named Ari, and they often wear matching outfits that are, of course, bursting with color.

Josh and Matt are artists and designers who welcome 800,000 virtual followers into their three-level, five-bedroom house in Melbourne, Australia. The massive home is filled with a combination of modern furniture, including a bed frame made of recycled cardboard, and vintage finds. Josh and Matt live to thrift old-school pieces. Recent acquisitions include space-age chairs from Italy that haven't been used for 50 years, and a shelving unit made in the '70s that dances (well, gyrates, actually). The duo also experiment with creative lighting options, including special reeds that illuminate their garden at night.

Jordan Samson is fluent in interior design styles ranging from mid-century modern to farmhouse, and he regularly shows his more than 75,000 followers how they can achieve any look without breaking the bank. Samson also offers practical advice on quandaries such as how to hang art, curtains and light fixtures, and finding ways to make technology look stylish. Samson earns points for being the rare interior design who puts function over form when buying home or office chairs. It may not be as pretty, but seek out ergonomic furniture, Samson says—and better yet, save money by purchasing a used chair. (Our tired, achy back approves!)
