Cillian Murphy and Peggy Gou Reflect on What Moves Them for Montblanc

The penstroke—a distillation of inspired human movement

In its ongoing "What Moves You, Makes You" campaign, Montblanc continues to share stories from what it calls its Mark Makers, which began last year with people like Spike Lee, Taron Egerton and Chen Kun.

This year's Mark Makers include actor Cillian Murphy and deejay Peggy Gou, who, in a pair of globally distributed videos, talk about what moves them in work that so visibly moves others. As part of their Mark Makers collab, each sports pieces from the luxury goods brand's UltraBlack Collection.

Let's take a look at Peggy Gou first. The Berlin-based deejay was born in South Korea, then studied fashion in London, where she later worked as a fashion editor, before giving herself to the music scene.

"Something should move you to be better, to do better. If you don't feel that, I feel like you're in a safe zone. You should find something that moves you always," she says.

For his part, Cillian Murphy cites that "old cliché" of how Irish people are great storytellers. "But I've loved story in every form since I was a kid," he says, walking us through his trajectory from failed musician to theater actor, where he aspired to replicate the sense of being a rock star in interaction with a live audience.

"The emotion is the thing that is key for me … I like people to go to the theater and come out feeling winded and emotionally shattered," he murmurs, his native accent a honeyed lilt.

"What Moves You, Makes You" is a manifesto designed to inspire people to express their potential by having a serious think about what moves them from within … and, inevitably, from without (even if their paths don't feel conventional, as in our Reinventions series). The work is the fruit of Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam.

"Cillian and Peggy are both Mark Makers, inspiring individuals who embody the ethos of Montblanc," says Vincent Montalescot, EVP of marketing at Montblanc. "They are both living proof that when you do what inspires you with audacity and creativity, you lead a more fulfilling life. In their own original ways, they both leave their mark in the world through their artistry and creativity, always driven by their passions and a higher purpose."

The campaign went live in Europe, China, Korea and the U.S. from Aug. 24.
