Jeep and OneRepublic's Latest 'Connection' Makes This Week's Most Shazam'd Ads

The Fiat Chrysler brand continues its work with Interscope

Fiat Chrysler's Jeep brand has renewed its longstanding partnership with Interscope Records by building a new campaign around the music of OneRepublic. And it's already connecting with viewers, judging by this week's list of most Shazam'd commercials. 

OneRepublic's new song, "Connection," is featured in the new "Summer of Jeep" campaign, which broke July 2. The band itself is prominently featured on screen in the launch spot, which ranks as the sixth most Shazam'd commercial of the past week. (See the full Shazam chart below.)

Jeep is well known for partnering with musical acts, having worked with OneRepublic before, back in 2013. It also helped to break X Ambassadors' "Renegade" in 2015 by using it in commercials.

OneRepublic leader Ryan Tedder tells Billboard that he couldn't be happier about the latest deal with Jeep. 

"The hardest thing in the world as an artist is to let the world know you exist," he says. "This is one of those deals where it just worked out. They didn't [even] ask me to write a song for Jeep. I was like, 'So I'm sitting with Jeep, and they're asking me to not write a song for Jeep, just write songs.' [FCA CMO] Olivier [Francois] was adamant: 'If it's a song that you would put out, that's what I want. Don't think about the car company.'" 

Sources tell Billboard that FCA is backing the "Summer of Jeep" campaign, which includes three spots with the OneRepublic song, with a $70 million media buy. 

"This truly fell in our lap," Tedder says. "This gets me in people's houses, free promo." 

The "Summer of Jeep" spot is one of three newcomers to our Shazam list. The others are a Best Western spot featuring "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors and a Nissan ad with "It's Strange" by Louis The Child Feat. K.Flay.
