PlayStation Aims for the Heart in This Surreal, Cinematic Spot

adam&eveDDB doesn't miss a beat

Does the mere thought of indulging in your favorite Sony Playstation games make your heart pound faster?

If so, you might enjoy adam&eveDDB's surreal new spot for the PS4 console.

Directed in suspenseful, cinematic style by Iconoclast's Romain Gavras, the 90-second film drops today. A heavily armed tactical team creeps through an inky labyrinth; weird, ominous noises build as they advance. The sinister sounds swell, and troopers force open a mysterious door that leads to a huge room filled with cages containing...

Feel the Power of PlayStation

…human hearts! So many hearts! We see hundreds, perhaps thousands of the veined, leathery organs, their persistent percussion powered by—wait for it, one more beat—PlayStation consoles, what else?

Kudos for not tipping the big reveal prematurely with cliched thump! thump! sound effects. That's some memorable, unsettling stuff right there. Just in time for Valentine's Day!

"We hope to continue to surprise our fans through the stories told from the lens of the PlayStation brand," says Sony Interactive Entertainment vp of global marketing Mary Yee.

Closing with an invitation to "Feel the Power of Playstation," this latest film reverberates way more intensely than Sony's recent and raucous game-icons-invade-the-real-world gambit. It's more akin to the weirdness of "Baby," a creepy brand classic from 2006.

"The powerful connection to the best games in the world creates memorable moments that thrill, excite and awe the player," says Yee. "We wanted to capture and emulate some of those gripping and unexpected emotional instances that PlayStation has delivered over the past 25 years."
