An Enormous 'Stranger Things' Corn Maze Just Appeared on an Indiana Farm

This one goes to Eleven

Have acres of love for Stranger Things on Netflix? Then you should pack your bags this fall and head to Lafayette, Indiana, to really get immersed in it.

That's where a gigantic 20-acre Stranger Things-themed corn maze has been created at Exploration Acres, a farm that features a pumpkin patch and corn maze leading up to Halloween every year. The Stranger Things maze will be open from Sept. 14 through Oct. 28.

"After binge-watching the entire Stranger Things series last year, I knew we had a unique opportunity to create an immersive environment for fans at our farm," says Tim Fitzgerald, president and CEO of Exploration Acres.

Fitzgerald tells Muse that even though it was his idea, Netflix has been involved in the project since he proposed it to them.

"I reached out to Netflix in January to ask permission to do the maze," Fitzgerald says. "I've worked with their creative marketing team to design the maze and have a legal agreement to use their IP."

The tech behind the planting of the corn is actually pretty nifty, allowing the team to "plant the maze design like an inkjet printer, dropping seeds into the precise design we imagined," says Fitzgerald.

"We planted the maze the second week of June and when the seeds germinated, the maze grew in the pattern you see in the photos," he adds. "We plant in June so the corn matures later and stays green longer. We also plant the rows closer than typical to increase density. The whole maze was actually planted at night in the dark using GPS guidance from satellites in lunar orbit."

The maze is equivalent to about 15 football fields in size, and the paths stretch for more than 10 miles in total.

Agrarian branding is actually having a pretty good summer. Spotify planted a few crop circles this year, featuring a handful of country music superstars.
