Clio Music Grand Winners: Droga5's 'Life Needs Truth' for The New York Times

A brilliant, jazzy soundtrack brought the paper's visual poem to life

Clio Music Grand Clio: Use of Music in Film/TV
Entrant: Droga5
Brand: The New York Times
Campaign: "Life Needs Truth"

Last August, Droga5 released what it called a "visual poem" for The New York Times, using headlines from Times pieces to tell the story of our tumultuous times. Without any narration, the 2:20 spot relied heavily on sound design and music to build a rhythm to punctuate the story. The energetic, jazzy score won the Grand Clio for Use of Music in Film/Video. In the video above, executive creative directors Toby Treyer-Evans and Laurie Howell discuss the making of the piece. And below, check out the full spot.
