Veterans Day Isn't About Sales, Say These World War II, Vietnam and Korea Vets

Ad is the first from creative agency GUT

When you think of Veterans Day, do you mostly think about retail promotions and discounts?

That's a shame, says a moving new ad from The Fisher House Foundation, a group that provides a "home away from home" for families of patients receiving care at military and VA medical centers. 

The two-minute spot is the first creative work released by agency GUT, which was started by former David executives Anselmo Ramos and Gaston Bigio. Tucker Walsh directed the spot through production company M ss ng P eces. 

"With this campaign, we want to highlight how far we have shifted the conversation away from the original significance behind Veterans Day," says Ramos, chief creative officer of GUT. "We hope that by highlighting veterans' reactions in this manner, we will remind people that Veterans Day is not about the next shopping sale, but was created to celebrate and honor these heroes and the sacrifices they've made." 

"Veterans and veterans issues are not something that you can just tout in a Veterans Day ad or use as a political tool," adds Ken Fisher, chairman of The Fisher House Foundation. "These are real men and women with a proud legacy of serving our nation. We owe these men and women a debt we can never repay and Fisher House Foundation is proud to join with GUT to remind Americans of the real significance of Veterans Day."

The campaign will run on Fisher House Foundation's social channels—Facebook, Twitter, Instagram—and on GUT's social channels.
